This is a social media health promotion campaign about sexual choking. This campaign is designed to build community knowledge relating to the risks of sexual choking, and support help-seeking behaviour. The evidence-informed approaches taken in each social media tile are drawn from Sexual choking: A health promotion approach

The digital environment normalises sexual choking, making it seem like everyone is doing it and that this sexual activity is risk-free. This can lead to situations where people are choked without specifically agreeing to it (sexual violence) as well as serious health consequences for the person being choked. This campaign will help you to let your audience know that every time you choke someone, or let someone choke you, there is a risk of serious injury, brain injury and death.

The campaign material covers:

  • Informed consent
  • Affirmative consent
  • Setting boundaries
  • Redirecting to less risky sexual activities
  • Help-seeking behaviour
  • Connecting sexual choking with brain injury
  • Reducing the frequency of sexual choking.

If you would like help constructing text to accompany these images, we have also created this social media campaign explainer:

This campaign will be useful to service providers and healthcare providers working in digital environments with people who are engaging or considering engaging in sexual choking.
